We have to write a research paper on a topic, and I choose coffee in america. I wanted to focus on how coffee has become a cultural phenomenon in that there are more coffee stores than ever, and places like Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks are major franchises that are across the world. The coffee industry is so successful because all types of consumers are targeted, whether the working class, or the sophisticated city goer, or the high school liberal, etc.

My only problem though, is that I don’t know what all of this means in a deeper sense, in a reflection of american lifestyle. What does the consumption of coffee mean for america, what impact does the coffee industry have, where do we go from here?

We are told to ask ourselves “so what?” about our topics, and I’ve tried to do that with mine, but I can’t come up with a good answer. “Coffee is big in america, so what?”…what’s the answer!!!
